From the desk of LeAnne Woolf……
Sumpter City Council held a special meeting on Feb 18 to refine further the special events policy for The Grounds. Proposed changes will most likely be reviewed next at the regular Council meeting on Mar 11. On Feb 20, council members met with the city’s attorney for a work session on the Woodley, et al., suit. The attorney went over the pros and cons of asking for summary judgement. As it was not a meeting, council did not discuss this option further.

Report of February City Council Meeting by LeAnne Wolf……
Fire Chief Kurt Clarke reported that most of the items purchased with the Volunteer Firefighters Association grant have arrived. The brush truck has been re-painted to red with grant money as well. The truck donated by Nehalem has not been fetched yet due to weather conditions west of the Cascades. First responder classes run Feb 20 to April 4.
In New Business, Oregon Parks & Rec has approached the City about being gifted with the Superintendent’s House. Council has answered with preliminary interest. Questions were brought up about the special events policy at The Grounds. The policy doesn’t currently address issues like when payments are due. A special meeting was scheduled for Feb 18 to go over the policy again. Mark Luker’s resignation from the Planning Commission was accepted. There are now three openings on Planning.
DEQ has approved Sumpter as a Small Water System and has also accepted the Recycled Water Use Plan. The City can now complete the paperwork for the Infrastructure Finance Authority grant and be reimbursed $9000 back into the sewer fun. The lights went into the building at the small city park, completion of heating installation is imminent, and painting is pretty much done.

The calendar says it’s February……I checked - I even checked twice.
Despite having an accurate calendar on my wall to refer to,
recent bountiful snowfall has left Sumpter looking a bit more like December or January.
Better late than never as they say……

The lack of snow on the lower trail systems is driving riders higher up…..and that is where riders should be most cautious.
Here is a link to the Wallowa Avalanche Center where you can get some great information before you hit the trails in our area this season: www.wallowaavalanchecenter.org
