Seeing the amazing progress that has been made thus far on the new City Park and restrooms is made even more amazing when it is realized that all this work has been accomplished by volunteers!
It is one thing to note how many volunteers show up to work on the park when phone calls are made to solicit help. But, when all these volunteers “just show up” without even a phone call asking them for help….it is clear that this is a project that is important to many people in town.
“We started work the other day….and people just started showing up, and we didn’t even make any phone calls asking for help…..really tells me just how important the new city park and restrooms is to most folks in town.” ~ Mayor John Young
Here are photos of the progress made up to now…….

According to the Mayor, work is on schedule for being finished by December 1st.
“We would like the park to be open and the restrooms to be operational in time for the Sumpter Holiday Celebration in December.” ~ Mayor John Young. Watch for details of the holiday celebration here. By the way, if you would like to help out in the planning of this year’s holiday celebration, the next planning meeting is scheduled for Oct 30th at 1:00 pm at the Sumpter Community Schoolhouse.
The Mayor plans to have a grand opening ceremony, complete with ribbon cutting, and even a ceremonial “first flush.” Watch for details here as we get nearer the completion date.
